The book, McBroome's wonderful one acre farm, or something like that, was the source of this gem. In the story, the Dad, Farmer McBroome, used to call all his children in a long string of names, like Tim, Tom, Sally and little Clarinda!!! The HamsterDad would often add Little Clarinda on the end of the list when calling the children to come upstairs for dinner or what not.

He did not want to do it, and intoned his lack of desire to be a real boy repeatedly. We of course picked it up, and now it is generally intoned early in the morning when nobody wants to get up and go to school.

Dude is an all purpose term, but has two specific Schmitz uses. One, all elementary age or youngsters are called dude. If the MotherMom calls you dude, it is a term of endearment, but also, she thinks you are permanently 11. Another usage of the word dude refers to all those man dolls that boys like to carry around and stage ( so called action figures). Feeling like a lighthouse man means that you feel like you might be one of the villains from a Scooby-doo episode. They were always angry, yellow or green, disaffected, gangrenous looking and over all terrifying and ugly. Sometimes this was a big rubber mask, which is significant, because it indicates that you are not feeling like yourself. The actual lighthouse man has glowing eyes and terrible teeth. A corollary to saying you feel like a lighthouse man is to have others tell you to get back into your lighthouse, which means you look like a lighthouse man, and should go lie down before you commit a crime and the gang has to come and bust you.

Schmeducation has nothing to do with academic subjects, especially spelling, which is wielded like a super power by half the family and completely ignored by the other half. Schmeducation is accomplished by watching the collection of movies and possibly by reading the proper books, to understand the Schmitz mindset. The core curriculum consists of having read The Lord of the Rings multiple times, and preferably having it read to you with appropriate voices, by the MotherMom. Graduates of this school can generally sing the Dwarf song from the Hobbit in it's entirety with the terrible tune that the MotherMom made up on the spot. Other reference materials include the The Chronicles of Narnia, All the Harry Potters, and The Gammage Cup. The Gammage Cup is a very important element, as it was read by Both the MotherMom and HamsterDad in their youth and they both picked it as one of their very favorite books, even though nobody else had ever heard of it. Some ancillary, yet still important works include Rebecca's World, The Rebel Witch, and Boomerang Hunter. The list of Movies one must watch for a Proper Schmeducation is long and varied, but a good starting place is to watch Star Wars, Labyrinth, Mirrormask, and The Dark Crystal. If you like these movies, you are welcome into the elite cadre of individuals who make up our ragtag bunch. If you do not like these movies, we are sad for you, since the rest of your Schmeducation is unlikely to help you. You may possibly be redeemed if you have seen and can quote freely from the Muppet movies, all of them, especially obscure ones, like Muppet Classic Theater. All Schmitzes have and make nicknames for everybody and everything. This is a sign of affection, generally speaking. One time a girl named Alexandra in our ward had to have her Mom come and talk to our MotherMom, because Schmitzes were calling her anything but Alexandra, and it was making her upset. How can you not make nicks for a name like Alexandra? The making of nicknames is ironic and especially dumb, since the MotherMom tried to give the children names specifically for the reason that they did not lend themselves to being shortened. This has not stopped anyone. The most dramatic story of Schmitz nicknames showing their staying power was when The Booster, AKA Micah, was in kindergarten. He was asked to write his full name down, and he wrote Micah The Booster Schmitz, because he thought that was actually his middle name, which it might as well be.

Raw Raw Bootsiwo came into being when tiny Schmitzes were trying to say Rah Rah Gryffindor. Since Gryffindor and Bootsiwo have nothing in common, it is a Mystery. This has become an all purpose chant, and is especially effective when used sarcastically, in a flat tone. I.E. "You managed to pass your final, Raw Raw Bootsiwo to you."
